Three significant factors are holding back cryptocurrencies from rallying again despite growing institutional interest, according to Maxime Seiler, CEO of STS Digital. Bitcoin, for example, has fallen more than 25% this year even as traditional financial players speed up adoption of blockchain technologies.
Seiler highlights institutional volatility-selling through options, the massive capital shift toward artificial intelligence, and ongoing delays in U.S. crypto regulations as key barriers. These forces are acting like a drag on prices, countering the momentum that blockchain integration into legacy finance might create.
Blockchain is becoming vital infrastructure for banks, exchanges, and brokers aiming to operate 24/7 markets. However, this modernization tends to benefit established financial institutions rather than directly boosting crypto asset values. As these firms streamline clearing, settlement, and margining processes around the clock, token holders have not seen the value appreciation once anticipated.
Seiler says that for a new bull run to gain traction, the industry needs clear regulatory frameworks, more accommodative monetary policies, and deeper institutional commitment to continuous financial operations. Until then, the competition for capital from sectors like AI development and uncertainty over crypto laws will likely keep digital asset prices subdued.
Bitcoin ETFs have recently experienced strong inflows despite price drops, reflecting this tug-of-war between enthusiasm and headwinds. The coming months could be critical for how quickly crypto can break free from these constraints.
