NinjaTrader, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, is pushing into tokenized equities, with plans to offer xStocks tied to assets from global markets. The move puts the firm alongside a growing number of crypto platforms racing to give retail users on-chain access to traditional stocks without going through a conventional brokerage.

What xStocks actually are

xStocks are tokenized representations of real-world equities, meaning each token tracks the price of an underlying share listed on major stock exchanges. Holders don't own the stock directly, but they get exposure to its price movement through a blockchain-based instrument. The format has been gaining traction because it lets crypto-native users trade assets like Apple or Tesla during hours when traditional markets are closed, and without the friction of opening a separate brokerage account.

NinjaTrader's push into this space signals that the firm sees tokenized equities as a logical extension of what Kraken already does. The exchange has tens of millions of registered users globally, and adding xStocks gives those users a reason to stay on the platform rather than split their portfolios across different apps.

Why the timing matters

Several competitors have been moving in the same direction. Backed Finance and Ondo Finance have been tokenizing U.S. Treasuries and equities for months, while Robinhood recently announced plans to offer tokenized stocks to European users. NinjaTrader entering the race with the Kraken brand behind it adds significant distribution muscle to the tokenized-equity narrative.

Regulatory clarity in the U.S. is still a work in progress, which is one reason many of these products launch outside American borders first. It's a pattern the industry knows well from the early stablecoin days, and xStocks appear to be following the same path.

No specific launch date for Kraken's xStocks offering has been confirmed at the time of writing, but the parent company's public positioning suggests the rollout is closer than a distant roadmap item.
