Zakura’s version 1.0.0, built on Zebra’s open-source codebase, promises consensus compatibility while significantly accelerating block synchronization. Benchmark results released by the developers show Zakura completing a standard sync in 4 hours and 20 minutes, compared to Zebra’s 20 hours and 46 minutes, nearly a fivefold increase in speed. Even more striking is the pruned snapshot mode, finishing in 1 minute and 50 seconds, which they describe as 680 times faster than traditional peer-to-peer syncs.
This level of performance gain could drastically reduce the time nodes spend offline during setup or recovery, enhancing network resilience. also native pruning reduces storage needs to about 11 GB, making full node operation more accessible for participants with limited resources. For exchanges and wallets, this means a smoother transition during node migrations without sacrificing integration compatibility, as Zakura supports the legacy zcashd remote procedure call interface.
