The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced plans to strengthen the city's banking sector against quantum computing threats by 2030. This initiative coincides with Hong Kong's push to expand its tokenized financial services.
As quantum technology evolves, it threatens current encryption methods, which banks heavily rely on for security. Given the increasing adoption of tokenized assets in Hong Kong's financial landscape, the HKMA wants to ensure institutions are prepared well ahead of time.
Experts warn that without adequate measures, quantum advancements could expose sensitive banking data to breaches. The HKMA's roadmap includes enhancing cryptographic standards and encouraging industry-wide collaboration to counteract these emerging risks.
