HashKey Exchange secured approval from JPMorgan Chase to open a segregated client funds account, marking a significant step for the Hong Kong-based crypto platform. This approval allows HashKey to offer a dedicated banking channel for handling customer money and U.S. dollar settlements. Although the account isn’t yet operational, the move signals tighter integration with global banking networks.
HashKey Exchange claims to be the first licensed digital asset exchange in Asia to get this kind of JPMorgan account approval. The account will separate client funds from company assets, aligning with Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission rules that demand foreign currency client money be kept segregated in the same currency. This setup aims to boost transparency and security for institutional investors and traders using HashKey’s regulated exchange.
HashKey Holdings, the parent company, highlighted that this banking relationship enhances the exchange’s connection to international finance systems. The announcement doesn’t specify when the account will start supporting live transactions or detail payment routes and commercial terms. Meanwhile, another major bank, DBS, enabled a separate fiat client funds account for HashKey at the end of June, showing growing support from traditional banks in Asia’s crypto space.
As competition rises among Asian crypto platforms for stronger banking links, HashKey’s JPMorgan approval stands out. It could facilitate smoother U.S. dollar settlements and attract more institutional clients seeking regulated and transparent trading environments. This development comes amid heightened regulatory scrutiny and demand for safer custody solutions in the digital asset industry.
