Two out of every three Solana blocks in the current epoch are coming from Europe, Glassnode reported this week, with leader nodes clustered heavily around Frankfurt. The finding comes from the analytics firm's Solana latency dashboard, which maps validator locations and measures network delays in real time.
The numbers behind the concentration
Solana's architecture rotates the block-producing "leader" role every 1.6 seconds, meaning geography becomes a live performance variable rather than a background detail. Glassnode's dashboard puts average latency from Frankfurt at 72 milliseconds. From the U.S. East Coast, that figure roughly doubles to around 140 ms. For validators, RPC providers, market makers, and dApp operators trying to land transactions before the next leader rotation, that gap is not trivial.
The 67% figure reflects where the scheduled validators for this specific epoch happen to be located. Solana assigns leaders per epoch, and the geographic mix shifts as the active validator set changes. So a Frankfurt-heavy epoch now does not lock in a Frankfurt-heavy epoch next time.
Who is paying attention and why
Institutions running latency-sensitive strategies on Solana, think decentralized exchanges and on-chain market makers competing to fill orders during volatile sessions, have the most direct reason to reroute connections toward European infrastructure right now. For them, shaving 60-70 ms off round-trip time can be the difference between a confirmed trade and a failed transaction.
Retail users are unlikely to feel anything. The underlying connectivity choices happen at the infrastructure layer, well below what a wallet or a browser extension exposes. Developers, though, can act immediately: adjusting RPC routing to favor Frankfurt endpoints requires no protocol changes and can improve application responsiveness in minutes.
Glassnode's dashboard release also lands in the context of Solana's broader 2026 Alpenglow push, which targets faster consensus. Whether tighter geographic clustering during individual epochs turns into a longer-term infrastructure story depends on how the validator set evolves over coming epochs.
