Galaxy Digital is making a big move in McGregor, Texas, by snapping up nearly 500 acres for a fresh AI and high-performance computing (HPC) campus. This will be their second major data center project in Texas after launching the Helios campus in West Texas. The company is clearly shifting focus beyond bitcoin mining, betting on growing AI demand.
Construction for the new campus will start soon, aiming to deliver 74 megawatts of capacity by 2028. But that’s just the beginning. Galaxy Digital plans to expand this site into a multi-hundred-megawatt powerhouse by 2030. They’re working closely with the City of McGregor and covering all costs privately, including building a substation, so local electric customers won’t face higher bills.
CEO Mike Novogratz pointed out that their success with the Helios data center, privately funded in Dickens County, proves this model works well for rural communities. He believes the McGregor campus will generate at least $130 million in new tax revenue for the city. This deal is a clear step forward in Galaxy Digital’s strategy to build substantial AI infrastructure in Texas.
The rise of AI has companies scrambling for computing resources. Many bitcoin miners, like Galaxy Digital, are pivoting to provide AI and HPC services. Their Helios campus, acquired in 2022, is already moving in that direction. The new McGregor site shows how the company plans to scale up as demand surges nationwide.
