Galaxy Digital has taken a major step in expanding its data center operations by purchasing roughly 500 acres in McGregor, Texas. This marks the company’s second significant data center campus in the state, focused on artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
The initial phase of the McGregor campus will deliver 74 megawatts of power, expected to come online in 2028, according to Galaxy. The company is collaborating with local authorities and the Heart of Texas Electric Cooperative to build the necessary infrastructure, including a privately funded electrical substation on site. This investment led to a $7.5 million payment to the City of McGregor from the land acquisition, a boost for the local community.
Plans for Growth and Infrastructure
Galaxy’s CEO Mike Novogratz described the growing need for computing power as a lasting transformation rather than a temporary surge. The company envisions scaling the McGregor site into a multi-hundred-megawatt campus by 2030, pending transmission upgrades and further development. However, as of now, no anchor tenant or final budget for expansion has been announced.
The development will complement Galaxy’s existing Helios facility in Dickens County, signaling an aggressive expansion strategy. The company confirmed the utility’s commitment to support the construction of interconnection facilities essential for initial operations. Power delivery and ramp-up will depend on regulatory approvals and construction progress.
