Forma, a platform focused on NFTs, announced plans to shut down its proprietary blockchain network and move all NFTs to the Ethereum mainnet. This marks a major pivot in their infrastructure strategy, prioritizing Ethereum’s widely adopted ecosystem over maintaining a standalone chain.
The project’s team shared the update publicly via their official social channels, confirming that the entire Forma Chain will cease operations. This is not about retiring a single collection or feature but involves winding down the whole network that supports the platform. According to reports, such as those on KuCoin’s news outlet, this move represents a transition from an independent blockchain to settling NFTs on Ethereum Layer 1.
Migrating the NFTs to Ethereum ensures the collectibles remain accessible and functional despite the Forma blockchain going offline. NFT holders will see their assets preserved on the world’s largest settlement layer for digital collectibles. The official Forma website continues to provide information about these assets and the migration process, although some technical details like bridge mechanics and token standards have yet to be fully disclosed.
Transitioning NFTs to Ethereum aligns Forma with a network that has a more extensive infrastructure and broader user base, potentially offering greater liquidity and security for its NFT ecosystem. This shift also reflects a broader industry pattern of consolidating digital asset activity onto major blockchains, reducing fragmentation. While Forma’s blockchain sunset is a significant change, the NFTs themselves retain value and utility through their relocation.
