On July 30, 2026, Equinix launched a bond sale targeting at least $3 billion to fund its expanding data center operations tailored for AI workloads. This move comes despite a challenging debt market environment linked to the surge in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The company already secured $1.5 billion in senior notes earlier this year, split between $700 million due in 2031 carrying a 4.4% coupon and $800 million due in 2033 with a 4.7% coupon. These rates reflect current elevated interest costs but allow Equinix to continue financing new projects as a REIT obligated to distribute most taxable income to shareholders.

Equinix operates over 270 AI-ready data centers worldwide, featuring advanced cooling systems, high-density power setups, and strong GPU connectivity. These facilities support the intense computational demands from AI applications and indirectly impact crypto mining and Web3 infrastructure development.

Alongside its US debt offerings, Equinix also raised funds in the UK targeting £280 million secured by two data center assets. The company’s cumulative green bonds reached $5.6 billion by mid-2023, contributing annual savings of $2 to $3 million through eco-friendly initiatives.

Equinix’s financing strategy shows how data center operators are leveraging bond markets to keep pace with AI growth and infrastructure needs, even when debt conditions tighten. This approach mirrors broader trends seen in tech and finance sectors adapting to AI’s rapid expansion.
