Booking a flight with crypto just got real for Emirates passengers. The airline now accepts payments through Crypto.com Pay directly on its website and app. This move marks Emirates as the first major airline in the Gulf region to offer customers the option to pay for tickets with cryptocurrency.
The rollout follows a partnership signed a year ago between Emirates and Crypto.com. Now, if you have a Crypto.com account and live in the UAE, you can pay for flights priced in Emirati Dirham using Crypto.com Pay. What’s interesting is that the specific cryptocurrencies available depend on what’s in your Crypto.com wallet, since Emirates hasn’t specified which coins are accepted.
Paying with crypto is straightforward. On your phone, the Emirates app sends you to Crypto.com to approve the payment, then returns you to confirm your booking. On desktop, you scan a QR code with the Crypto.com app to complete the purchase. No card details or bank transfers required it acts much like other QR-based payments.
Emirates’ Deputy President Adnan Kazim emphasized that this shift caters to younger travelers who manage their money and trips primarily through mobile devices. This update reflects how airlines are evolving to meet those expectations in payments technology.
Behind the scenes, Crypto.com’s Dubai branch holds a Virtual Asset Service Provider license from the UAE Central Bank, which adds regulatory legitimacy. This detail is often overlooked but key for secure and compliant crypto transactions in the region.
