450,000 cars produced last quarter highlight why Tesla’s China operations are too significant to split, according to Elon Musk, who denied reports about potentially selling the unit.

The Wall Street Journal claimed Tesla was considering separating or selling its Chinese business as part of preparing for a possible merger with SpaceX. Musk quickly called these reports false and said such plans were never discussed internally. China remains a key market and manufacturing base for Tesla, with Gigafactory Shanghai supplying vehicles both locally and abroad.

The China unit’s scale was underscored by Tesla’s Q2 production and delivery figures over 450,000 and 480,000 vehicles respectively showing why any move involving the region would attract strong market attention. Musk’s denial aims to calm speculation amid growing chatter about a Tesla-SpaceX merger after Musk suggested SpaceX could reach $1 trillion in annual revenue by 2030.
