Shares of Changxin Technology Group, or CXMT, skyrocketed by almost 466% on their debut at the STAR Market in Shanghai. Closing at 49 yuan, the stock surged from its initial 8.66 yuan offering price, marking one of the most explosive IPO performances in recent memory.
Market Value Surpasses Major Banks
At day’s end, CXMT’s market cap hit about 3.3 trillion yuan, briefly positioning the memory chip producer above the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which stands at roughly 2.6 trillion yuan. The company raised 57.92 billion yuan (around $8.6 billion), making this the largest IPO completed in Asia so far in 2026. Such a massive influx of capital highlights investor confidence in CXMT’s potential within the semiconductor sector.
Backing from AI Growth and Semiconductor Industry Dynamics
Specializing in DRAM chips used in smartphones, computers, data centers, and AI servers, CXMT holds an estimated 7.67% share of the global DRAM sales in Q4 2025. While it lags behind giants like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, the company has shown remarkable progress. reports suggest Apple has begun testing CXMT's DRAM for possible integration into China-specific devices, a move that could cement CXMT’s position in the global supply chain.
Financially, CXMT swung from a 2.83 billion yuan operating loss in Q1 last year to a 35.43 billion yuan operating profit in the latest quarter. This turnaround shows the company’s strong operational momentum amid China’s push for semiconductor self-reliance, particularly for AI infrastructure development. Industry commentators note that local sourcing of memory chips could reshape China's tech ecosystem significantly.
Founded in 2016 by chairman Zhu Yiming, CXMT plans to channel the IPO proceeds into advancing technology, scaling wafer production, and boosting R&D. The company’s trajectory will be one to watch, especially as geopolitical and trade factors continue to influence the global semiconductor supply chain.
