Shares of Changxin Technology Group (CXMT) soared by 465.82% on their debut at Shanghai’s STAR Market, closing at 49 yuan compared to their 8.66 yuan IPO price. This surge briefly made CXMT the most valuable company listed in China, with a market capitalization hitting around 3.3 trillion yuan by the trading day’s close.
The value of CXMT outpaced that of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which had a market cap near 2.6 trillion yuan, positioning the semiconductor firm above the major banking giant in market value for the day.
China’s Rising DRAM Player Attracts Massive Investment
Based in Hefei, CXMT raised approximately 57.92 billion yuan (about $8.6 billion) through the IPO, marking it as Asia’s largest completed IPO this year. The funds are expected to support the company’s aggressive expansion plans in producing dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips, which are essential components in devices like smartphones, computers, data centers, and AI servers.
Although industry leaders Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology dominate global DRAM sales, CXMT carved out a 7.67% share of the worldwide market in Q4 2025, according to its IPO filing. This foothold helped boost investor confidence despite CXMT trailing technologically behind these giants.
Interest in CXMT spiked following reports that Apple tested its DRAM chips for potential use in devices sold in China, fueling speculation about future supply deals that could enhance CXMT’s reputation and growth trajectory.
The company’s financials showed a striking turnaround, with operating profits reaching 35.43 billion yuan in Q1 2026, compared to a 2.83 billion yuan loss the previous year. CXMT’s IPO prospectus projects first-half 2026 revenues between $15.3 billion and $16.7 billion, expecting over a 600% year-over-year increase and net profit margins above 45%.
Market watchers note that CXMT stands to benefit from Beijing’s push for domestic AI infrastructure and semiconductor self-sufficiency, which could lead to increased demand from local internet companies eager to source chips from homegrown suppliers.
Founded in 2016 by Chairman Zhu Yiming, CXMT is channeling its IPO proceeds toward upgrading technology and expanding DRAM production capacity, aiming to challenge global leaders in the sector.
