Paul Grewal, Chief Legal Officer at Coinbase, has publicly questioned the Senate’s position on the CLARITY Act following a significant endorsement from the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). This law enforcement organization, one of the largest in the US, recently voiced its support for the updated version of the blockchain-focused legislation.
Grewal’s inquiry came after American crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett reported the FOP’s backing of the revised bill. The group had been involved in discussions around the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act (BRCA), and their endorsement signals growing momentum behind the CLARITY Act’s potential passage.
The FOP’s support centers on changes in the latest draft of the bill, which they say address their previous concerns while maintaining key investigative powers over crypto-related crimes. Patrick Yoes, the FOP National President, communicated this stance in a letter to key Senate Banking Committee leaders, highlighting how the legislation balances innovation encouragement with law enforcement’s needs to combat fraud and illicit finance using digital assets.
Despite the endorsement from law enforcement, the CLARITY Act still faces delays in Congress. Grewal used this moment to push Senate members to clarify whether they stand with the FOP’s support or resist the new crypto regulations. His message urged lawmakers to act decisively on the legislation, which aims to bring clearer regulatory certainty to the crypto sector.
As the bill edges closer to a vote, the debate intensifies over how best to regulate digital assets without stifling innovation. Meanwhile, Coinbase’s leadership continues advocating for regulatory clarity to support the industry’s growth and security.
The crypto market remains steady amid ongoing legislative discussions.
