Bitcoin’s price action in 2026 has been anything but straightforward. After hitting a yearly low near $57,800 in the second half of the year, the cryptocurrency bounced back almost 10%, only to stall below the $68,000 and $70,000 resistance levels. Coinbase analysts, led by Colin Basco, are signaling caution as they observe Bitcoin moving from a correction toward an accumulation phase, but they stop short of declaring a firm market bottom.
Signs of a Bottom, But Not Yet a Turnaround
Coinbase points to Bitcoin’s “Supply in Loss” metric sitting at 50%, a level historically associated with cycle lows. This suggests a bottoming process is underway but isn’t fully established. The firm reads this as the early innings of a recovery, rather than a confirmed, durable low. Fidelity recently shared a similar view, adding weight to the idea that Bitcoin is stabilizing but remains vulnerable.
Yet, macroeconomic concerns loom large. The Federal Reserve’s hawkish stance and the potential for interest rate hikes remain key risks. also geopolitical tensions, such as renewed U.S.-Iran conflicts, and rising oil prices could dampen investor enthusiasm. Large-scale sell-offs from prominent digital asset treasuries add further pressure, keeping sentiment cautious.
What Could Shift Bitcoin’s Momentum?
On the positive side, Coinbase highlights a rebound in U.S. Spot Bitcoin ETF flows during the latter half of 2026, a contrast to the earlier sluggishness. Still, Basco emphasizes that a more optimistic outlook for Q3 depends heavily on a dovish pivot from the Fed or lower inflation data, which would ease liquidity constraints and potentially boost ETF inflows. Kalshi’s market data shows about a 70% chance of Fed rate hikes before 2027, indicating this risk remains front and center.
Meanwhile, developments around the CLARITY Act could act as a short-term catalyst. Bitcoin’s recent rally to nearly $67,000 was tied to renewed negotiations on the bill, although the price slipped back to $64,000 amid legislative hurdles, highlighting how policy uncertainty continues to sway market moves.
Key Price Levels to Watch
Looking at the price chart, Coinbase identifies a potential support floor around $53,000, which represents the average cost basis and would mean roughly a 17% drop from current levels. On the upside, reclaiming $72,300 the 200-day moving average and pushing toward $76,000, the True Market Mean, would signal a stronger recovery phase.
While Bitcoin appears to be in a bottoming phase, the mix of macro headwinds and geopolitical risks might delay a lasting turnaround. For now, Coinbase’s message is clear: patience remains the best strategy.
