Three wallets with zero transaction history suddenly received a combined 1.16 trillion Shiba Inu tokens from Coinbase, and not a single one of those tokens has moved since. No trades on the order book, no customer withdrawals visible on-chain. Just an enormous internal reshuffle that briefly lit up blockchain monitoring dashboards on July 23.
How the transfers broke down
Arkham Intelligence data shows three separate transactions executed within a single 30-minute window. The first moved 242.13 billion SHIB out of a Coinbase Prime Custody wallet tagged 0x674. Minutes later, a second Prime Custody address (0x937) sent 348.08 billion SHIB to another freshly generated wallet. The largest chunk, 573 billion SHIB, originated from an unmarked address (0xa59) during the same hour. Analysts attribute that third transfer to Coinbase as well, pointing to the identical timing and the same behavioral pattern as the first two.
Add them up: 1,163,213,299,134 tokens, all routed to brand-new addresses with no prior history. At current prices that stack is worth roughly $4.9 million, which sounds modest until you remember SHIB trades in fractions of a cent and the sheer token count is what grabs attention.
Internal plumbing, not a market signal
Large custodians do this regularly. Spreading holdings across freshly created wallets is a standard practice for tightening security, rebalancing liquidity reserves, and keeping operational workflows clean. None of the three destination wallets have recorded any outbound transactions since receiving the tokens, which strongly points to a custody reorganization rather than preparation for a sale or a customer payout.
Coinbase is not alone in the timing either. Binance ran a comparable internal transfer of around 400 billion SHIB shortly before Coinbase's move, also with no evidence of subsequent market activity. Two of the biggest crypto platforms reshuffling SHIB custody in the same period is probably coincidence, but it keeps on-chain watchers busy regardless.
Where SHIB stands right now
The token is sitting at $0.000004231 with a market cap of $2.49 billion, good enough for 31st place in the global crypto rankings. That puts it right behind Tether Gold (XAUt), which holds the 30th spot at roughly $2.52 billion. The gap is small, about $30 million separating SHIB from a top-30 slot, and the project's community has been vocal about closing it. Whether custody reshuffles from major exchanges play any role in that push is a separate question entirely.
