Coinbase has named Rob Witoff as its new chief technology officer, returning a seasoned engineer to lead the company through its AI-driven evolution. The announcement came from CEO Brian Armstrong who highlighted Witoff's key role in Coinbase's rise and its focus on artificial intelligence.

Witoff’s journey with Bitcoin dates back to 2009 and he joined Coinbase in 2014 as one of its early engineers. Back then, the platform supported just one cryptocurrency, ran on Heroku, and had a small engineering team working from a single codebase. Despite massive growth over 12 years, Witoff says the company’s culture remains focused on relentless product delivery.

As CTO, Witoff aims to make Coinbase the best environment globally for building innovative technology, especially through AI. Armstrong praised him for shaping Coinbase’s engineering and steering the company to become one of the most AI-enabled firms worldwide. This leadership change arrives as Coinbase accelerates its AI strategy amid a competitive market.
