Brazil’s rapid growth in crypto ETFs is making the country a unique hotspot in Latin America. While the US debated Bitcoin ETFs for years, Brazil quietly assembled a diverse portfolio of digital asset funds, now hosting over 22 crypto-exposed ETFs on its main exchange, B3.
A groundbreaking surge in crypto ETF offerings
The driving force behind Brazil’s ETF expansion is Hashdex, an asset manager that’s gained global recognition within the crypto fund space. It debuted the world’s first Solana ETF in September 2024 and followed with the first XRP ETF by April 2025. Hashdex is now gearing up to introduce a hybrid Bitcoin-and-gold ETF, ticker GBTC11, set to launch on July 29, 2025. This blend appeals to investors keen on digital assets but wary of crypto’s notorious volatility, presenting a middle ground with gold’s stability.
Latin America's growing appeal for global investors
Stronger commodity prices and positive macroeconomic trends have lifted interest in Latin American assets, reflected in rising inflows to regional ETFs such as the iShares Latin America 40 ETF (ILF). The iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (EWZ), a key vehicle for Brazilian equities, holds nearly $9.05 billion in net assets. Regulatory clarity from Brazil’s securities watchdog, CVM, has been a critical factor, treating crypto funds like any other asset class rather than edging on caution, unlike the drawn-out approval process in the US. The US Securities and Exchange Commission’s hesitation to approve standalone Solana or XRP ETFs contrasts sharply with Brazil’s proactive stance.
What it means for crypto investors worldwide
This expansion enhances liquidity by offering more regulated avenues for both retail and institutional investors to gain digital asset exposure without direct token custody. The hybrid Bitcoin-gold ETF could set a new standard for integrating traditional finance with crypto investing. Yet, investors must consider risks such as currency fluctuations since Brazilian ETFs are denominated in reals, exposing dollar-based investors to FX volatility. also while Brazil’s regulatory environment is progressive, emerging markets can experience sudden policy changes with less predictability than more developed jurisdictions.
Brazil’s evolving crypto ETF landscape shows Latin America’s emerging role as a launchpad for innovative crypto investment products, attracting attention far beyond regional borders.
