BNB Chain's recent spot DEX trading volume is rapidly closing the gap with Coinbase-backed Base, reaching $22.6 billion over 30 days, just shy of Base's $24.5 billion, according to DefiLlama data. On shorter timeframes, BNB Chain has already pulled ahead, with daily volume at $954.7 million compared to Base's $638.8 million and weekly volume at $6.03 billion versus $5.07 billion.

Distinct Strategies Reflect Different Strengths

Both blockchains aim to attract retail traders with low fees and large liquidity pools, but their volume patterns differ. BNB Chain shows steady, high monthly figures, while Base experiences sharp, sporadic spikes that sometimes surpass Ethereum’s volumes. Earlier this year, Base briefly overtook both in a 7-day window, hitting $16.5 billion, but BNB Chain reclaimed the lead soon after.

The backbone of BNB Chain’s volume remains PancakeSwap, which handled about 71% of the chain's spot trades on October 7, 2025, with $4.29 billion of the $6.05 billion daily total. The Maxwell upgrade in June 2025 further boosted BNB Chain, pushing its monthly DEX volume to a record $165 billion at one point, far above current levels.

Traders find BNB Chain offers more consistent daily liquidity, while Base excels during bursts driven by new token launches or memecoin hype. Investors should weigh BNB Chain's dependence on PancakeSwap against Base’s growing but still diversified DEX ecosystem, which may offer greater resilience over time.
