Bitmine just grabbed another 10,400 ETH in a week. That pushes its total Ethereum stash to 5.8 million coins, worth about $10.9 billion at current prices. The company now controls 4.8% of all Ethereum in circulation the largest corporate holder by a wide margin.
The real story isn't just the size of the pile. It's what Tom Lee's firm plans to do with it. Bitmine already has 4.9 million ETH locked into its MAVAN staking platform, earning yield at 2.67%. Do the math: that's $247 million in annual staking revenue right now. Stake the remaining coins and the number jumps to $291 million.
That's not theoretical upside. Ethereum's staking ecosystem has kept humming even as broader markets wobbled. The validator queue stayed thick throughout July and into August, showing institutions still see yield as worth the lock-in. Major protocols like Aave have seen deposits surge, signaling appetite for yield strategies hasn't dried up.
The stock story tells a different tale
Lee talks up Ethereum's fundamentals. Last July, ETH outperformed the Nasdaq 100 by 25 percentage points, the biggest gap since 2025. His thesis: Bitmine stock tends to outperform Ethereum itself after those kinds of runs. But the numbers don't back him up cleanly. BMNR shares are down 44% year-to-date despite a recent pop to $17.42.
The company's throwing money at the problem anyway. Since July 1, Bitmine has repurchased 16.1 million shares as part of a $4 billion buyback program, including 4.5 million last week alone. It also holds 209 Bitcoin, $173 million in cash, and more than $240 million in strategic equity stakes. That's serious dry powder.
Ethereum ETFs had $11.9 million in outflows on August 3, but July was net positive with $365 million in inflows overall. Staking demand remains the backstop. As long as validators keep queuing up, the economics work.
