Bitget has been added to New Zealand's Financial Service Providers Register (FSPR), the exchange confirmed this week, marking another step in its push to operate under formal regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.

The registration covers a broad set of service categories: foreign currency exchange, domestic and cross-border money transfers, client asset custody, portfolio and money management, and execution of financial product or FX transactions on behalf of clients. Alongside the FSPR listing, Bitget joined the New Zealand Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman (IFSO) Dispute Resolution Scheme, which gives eligible customers an independent channel to escalate complaints.

Part of a wider compliance build-out

CEO Gracy Chen framed the move as infrastructure work rather than a milestone in itself. "Financial platforms need compliance structures that can support a wider mix of assets and services," she said, adding that the registration extends the company's international financial services framework as it connects digital assets with traditional markets.

Bitget describes its model as a Universal Exchange, bundling crypto assets, tokenized stocks, commodities, foreign exchange and other instruments into one platform. The New Zealand registration fits into that strategy: the company has been building out registered entities and partnerships across different jurisdictions to support products including traditional market instruments, FX services and tokenized real-world assets.

The FSPR listing does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee by the New Zealand government, the Financial Markets Authority, or the Registrar of Financial Service Providers. Product availability remains subject to local laws and regional eligibility requirements.
