Monday opened with Bitcoin dropping to around $63,000, down roughly 1.4% from the $64,300 weekly close, as US-Iran tensions over the Strait of Hormuz sent investors fleeing risk assets across the board.
The selloff triggered about $253 million in liquidations over 24 hours, mostly longs. That sounds alarming, but it's only about a sixth of the worst single-day wipeouts seen over the past month.
BTC has been stuck between $59,000 and $66,000 for a full month now. Today's dip lands squarely inside that range, not below it.
Zoom out and the numbers are sobering. Bitcoin is down around 30% year-to-date and still sits more than 50% below its October record high.
The geopolitical shock hit hard elsewhere too. South Korea's Kospi index shed 9.2%, and WTI crude jumped 3% to trade above $73 a barrel as the Hormuz standoff dragged on. Part of Monday's BTC drop is also plain profit-taking after a strong weekend rally.
Altcoins took the bigger hit. Lighter ($LIT) fell 8% in its first real pullback after a 200%-plus run over two months. Cardano ($ADA) is down 19% since July 4, following a brutal 39% collapse in June and a 40%-plus bounce in early July. Jupiter ($JUP) lost more than 15% on the week, with daily trading volume cratering to just $17 million compared to $500 million-plus that was routine earlier in 2025.
On the corporate side, Strategy raised $466.7 million through a stock sale last week, bringing its cash reserve to $3 billion. Its Bitcoin holdings stayed flat at 843,775 coins.
The one genuinely positive signal came from ETF data. Spot Bitcoin ETFs posted their first weekly net inflows in nine weeks, pulling in roughly $197 million according to SoSoValue. That ends an eight-week outflow streak that cost the market $2.43 billion in May and another $4.5 billion in June. July has now logged $124 million in net inflows total.
Analysts are cautious. The structural bid won't feel confirmed until BlackRock's IBIT shows sustained inflows week after week, but for the first time since spring, the flow data at least points in the right direction.
This week is one of 2026's busiest on the macro calendar, with June CPI data due and other key inflation prints that could swing risk appetite quickly in either direction.
