“Any hint of dovishness from the Fed would lift bitcoin,” said Thahbib Rahman, a research analyst at Block Scholes, ahead of Wednesday’s Federal Reserve meeting. The central bank’s next move has traders split, with a 70 percent chance markets price for rates to stay put, and a roughly 30 percent chance of a surprise hike. This uncertainty has kept major tech stocks linked to AI under pressure, while bitcoin has quietly held above $63,000 through July.
Bitcoin’s relative stability contrasts with AI-driven semiconductor stocks that slipped further as traders brace for Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh’s second policy decision. According to Rahman, only two prior Fed meetings since 2015 have seen markets this divided over the outcome. Warsh’s limited use of forward guidance has left investors guessing, diminishing clarity on what lies ahead for interest rates and risk appetite.
Despite the fog enveloping the Fed’s stance, signs suggest bitcoin’s ties to broader equity markets are loosening. While Nasdaq stocks related to AI faltered before the announcement, crypto has shown signs of decoupling, trading close to multi-year lows but mostly holding its ground as traditional risk assets wobble. This divergence hints that bitcoin might weather the coming volatility better than earlier this year.
As crypto traders watch closely, the Federal Reserve's stance could redefine risk appetite across markets. Bitcoin’s resilience might offer a cushion if the Fed signals it will ease its tightening campaign. For now, the stakes remain high, and uncertainty about policy direction keeps markets jittery.
