Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer 2 network, will hold its first Global Community Call on July 31, signaling a new phase of direct engagement with its growing community. The event aims to provide key updates from Base’s core team, spotlight projects within the ecosystem, and share insights through builder interviews.

Event Details and What to Expect

The call is set for 8:00 AM PT (11:00 AM EST, 3:00 PM GMT, 8:30 PM IST). Although the agenda and speakers remain undisclosed, the format includes three pillars: Base team updates, conversations with ecosystem builders, and highlights of emerging projects. The announcement came on July 27 via Base’s official X account.

Token Launch and Strategic Shift

Since its mainnet launch in 2023, Base has grown into one of the leading Layer 2 networks, emphasizing low transaction costs and developer adoption. Despite this, it has yet to launch a native token a common tool used by other Layer 2s like Arbitrum and Optimism to boost engagement and community governance.

Founder Jesse Pollak revealed in September 2025 that the team is exploring a native token, but the launch faces regulatory risks, especially given Coinbase’s complex relationship with US regulators. Pollak has stepped back from app leadership to focus on positioning Base as essential infrastructure for global finance.

July 2026 saw Base reorganize its operations to hone in on payments, trading, and AI infrastructure. Investors and observers will watch the July 31 call closely for signs of a token launch timeline, potential strategic partnerships, and governance direction.
