Aviva Investors has launched a tokenised share class of its US Dollar Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger, marking a first for the asset manager in bringing traditional fund structures onto a blockchain. The move comes with approval from the Central Bank of Ireland, setting a regulatory precedent for tokenised fund offerings.
Launch Details and Technology Partners
The new share class allows qualified investors to hold units of the USD Liquidity Fund in tokenised form on XRPL, with custody managed by Komainu and tokenisation infrastructure provided by Licuido. The fund itself, which targets low-risk returns through short-term, high-grade U.S. dollar debt instruments, retains the same risk profile and liquidity features as its conventional counterpart launched in 2020. Assets remain with The Bank of New York Mellon, while investors access their shares digitally.
Industry Significance and Reactions
Mark Versey, Aviva Investors’ CEO, highlighted the significance of this launch after months of development and collaboration with Ripple. The partnership is seen as a key driver for integrating regulated real-world assets on the XRP Ledger, potentially expanding use cases such as lending and borrowing on the blockchain. Ripple's commitment to supporting regulated fund tokenisation shows XRP Ledger’s evolving role beyond crypto trading. This launch positions XRP Ledger as a growing hub for tokenised assets, following trends seen in decentralized finance and asset digitisation.
