ARK Invest bought 220,012 shares of Circle Internet Group on July 22, spending roughly $13.9 million as CRCL dropped to $63.38, a 4.20% single-session loss that pushed the stock below every major daily moving average.
According to ARK's trading disclosure, the firm split the purchase across three actively managed ETFs. The flagship ARK Innovation ETF took the largest slice at 159,517 shares, the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF added 42,400, and the ARK Fintech Innovation ETF picked up the remaining 18,095. The session low hit $61.49, giving the firm what appears to be a deliberate entry during peak selling pressure rather than a wait-and-see approach.
The move fits a pattern ARK has been running lately. Earlier in the same week, four ARK funds as digital-asset equities stayed under pressure purchased 170,634 SpaceX shares worth about $20.45 million while that stock traded below its $135 IPO price. SpaceX subsequently climbed 7.10% to $128.37, generating an early unrealized gain. Circle and SpaceX share little beyond the fact that ARK added to both after steep drops, without waiting for chart confirmation of a recovery.
Circle runs USDC, the dollar-backed stablecoin embedded across exchanges, payment platforms and DeFi protocols. Softer sentiment toward crypto-linked equities has made the stock volatile, and as ARK describes its own approach, the firm is focused on disruptive technology companies over long time horizons, a posture that routinely exposes its funds to sharp drawdowns.
Regulatory picture shifting for Circle
Circle's near-term outlook is also tied to the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a piece of legislation that would draw federal lines between SEC and CFTC authority over digital assets. Senator Cynthia Lummis published an updated version of the bill on July 22, merging texts advanced by the Senate Banking and Agriculture committees. Progress on the bill could reduce the regulatory uncertainty that has weighed on crypto-adjacent stocks, giving Circle a potential catalyst beyond any improvement in its chart.
ARK has not claimed CRCL has bottomed. The daily MACD signal is improving but the stock remains sub-$64, and the buying may continue in subsequent sessions if the price stays weak.
