Shares of AMD showed a strong bounce after the company revealed a new collaboration with Cerebras Systems to build an innovative AI inference platform. The partnership blends AMD’s Helios rackscale systems with Cerebras’ Wafer-Scale Engine, aiming for a huge leap in AI processing speed and energy efficiency.

The joint platform is designed to split the AI workload by assigning prompt processing and token generation to different specialized hardware. AMD Helios takes on the prompt handling with its ability to manage large context windows at high throughput. Meanwhile, Cerebras’ Wafer-Scale Engine accelerates token generation while keeping latency ultra-low. This split architecture targets up to five times more tokens per second per watt, signaling a major step forward in making AI inference both faster and greener.

Such advances matter especially for applications needing real-time responses, like autonomous robots, live virtual assistants, and AI coding tools. These use cases can't afford delays as the quality of interaction hinges on immediate output. By dividing tasks across dedicated processors, AMD and Cerebras can serve high-volume workloads without sacrificing quick turnarounds.

Looking ahead, Cerebras expects to deploy this combined system across its data centers and plans a public rollout via Cerebras Cloud in the latter half of 2026. This move also broadens AMD’s footprint in the AI infrastructure race, following recent moves like the launch of the Helios server rack that targets competition with Nvidia.
